“About Us”
Founded in 1938 by two brick mason brothers Carl and Claude Cooper of Selma, Cooper Brothers Construction Company was a pioneer in the general construction industry in central Alabama in the early days. One of the first licensed general contractors in the state with a still operating license number of 388, the company built many projects for the local, state and federal governments particularly during the war years. During WWII Carl and Claude built barracks for German prisoners of war for the Department of Defense in North Alabama. With a strong masonry background between the partners, the company also built a number of the finer masonry oriented projects particularly in and around Selma and West Alabama.
In 1982, Thomas P. (Tom) Bolton was employed by a descendant of the original Cooper Brothers as Vice President of Operations and Project Acquisition. In 1984 he successfully completed the purchase of the company from the Cooper family and reorganized it maintaining the name and its tradition and reputation for excellence. With the aid and assistance of Randall Prince, Senior Estimator and Project Manager, together they built the company into a major player in the construction markets in West Alabama.
Placing a premium on customer service with a strong focus on negotiated, design/build projects for our long-time clients, as well as developing relationships with new clients, have enabled our company to grow at a fast pace to where it is today; one of the "Top 50 Builders" in the state as recognized by Business Alabama magazine.
The other distinguishing feature of our company is our leadership and personnel with most of our employees having 10 plus years of service with the company. Many have 20 plus years of service and together they comprise one of the most experienced, innovative and energetic teams in the Southeast. Though ownership changed in 1984, the ethical standards and guiding principals set forth by the founding owners have never wavered, thus providing a strong foundation on which our company continues to grow annually. Those same standards are as prominent as ever as Cooper Brothers Construction continues its growth not only as a top-builder, but as a leader in the Selma community and the communities in southwest Alabama that it has become a part of over these last eight decades.
While recognizing and valuing our past, we know that our future lies in front of us. By always going “above and beyond” for our clients, we have been able to maintain record growth each year. As the area’s oldest and active true 'design-build' construction firm, we are able to offer our clients the true turn key approach to all of their construction needs.
While others are trying to build a reputation or relying on one, we continue to expand our tradition rich reputation by never settling for anything but the best.
